For the last few months I have been spending a lot of my poker playing time at free poker site NoPayPOKER. I originally joined to practice my game and learn the art of poker without actually losing any of my own cash. Since then I have made some great friends on the site and am not intending on leaving any time soon.
Now, with that said, there is the downside to not only playing on NPP but other free poker sites as well. People who never heard the term Poker Nice. Poker Nice? It’s about being polite, having and using your poker skills, and enjoying the thrill of the game. There will always be a few who would love to take the fun out of playing by being abusive, harassing, nasty even. I ask myself, what is their motivation, why would anyone take pleasure in being downright ugly. I don't loathe people like that I actually feel quite sorry for them. If that is how they get their fun then something must be very sad within themselves.
Everyone is going to have a bad beat, get "donked" out. We all get frustrated at times. We can scream at the monitor and shake our heads in utter contempt, but instead of showing bad manners by becoming rude, why not show good sportsmanship. Respect the hand and move on to the next one. Would anybody really behave ungraciously in a casino and start talking rudely and being abusive? No, they wouldn't. So, why should somebody feel like they should get away with it when playing online poker?
The next time you take a bad beat or get "donked" out, don't dive in and start typing abusive language, take a deep breath and accept your loss. Be polite like you would if you were playing in a casino.
I wish for those individuals who have forgotten what poker nice or etiquette is all about to remember poker is really all about winning a hand, enjoying the art of playing, and most of all having real fun . We're all going to win some and lose some, but that's gambling. Just remember everyone is there to play the great poker tournament game of Hold'em and have fun. And of course to win with honour and lose with grace!
